Barry Lather grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and was raised in a dancing family of five children. His mother, Joan, was a dance instructor and father, George, had his own dancewear business.

Barry moved to Los Angeles after high school, and in 1985 got his start in the entertainment industry dancing in the 3-D film Captain EO (featuring Michael Jackson and directed by Francis Ford Coppola). Barry danced in Janet Jackson’s music videos “Nasty” & “When I Think of You” in 1986, both choreographed by Paula Abdul.

Shortly after those videos, Lather was given the opportunity to choreograph for Janet Jackson on the American Music Awards and Grammy Awards in 1987. Following the success of those two performances, Barry then choreographed Janet Jackson’s video The Pleasure Principle, winning an MTV Award & Billboard Music Award for best choreography in a video.

Charles “Cholly” Atkins (13 September 1913 – 19 April 2003) was an American dancer and vaudeville performer, who later became noted as the house choreographer for the various artists on the Motown label.

Cholly Atkins worked with Motown artists such as The Supremes, The Four Tops, Smokey Robinson, Gladys Night, Marvin Gaye and The Temptations. He also worked with The O’jays, Love Committee and Aretha Franklin to name a few. He taught us to command the stage in ways that would enhance our performances and “sell” our songs. Not only did he teach…but he constantly educated our minds……teaching us respect for our craft, respect for other artists, and pride in who we are what we have to offer as entertainers. Cholly was a true unsung hero and second father to many in the music industry.

In 1989, Atkins received a Tony Award for choreographing the Broadway show Black and Blue. Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2003, Atkins died of the cancer on April 19, 2003 Las Vegas, Nevada at 89.

Article Headline: Britney’s Pal Wade Robson Steps into His Own MTV Show
Article Date: Sept, 2003
Article Source: People Magazine

He’s a friggin’ baby!” That, says Wade Robson, was Britney Spear’s reaction in 1999 when she met with him to see if he’d be the right one to choreograph her first big U.S. tour. He was 16. “I thought he was gonna be in his 30s or 40s,” says Spears. “I was like, ‘Uh…is this guy capable of doing what I want to do? He has to really have it together.’ ”

He did. After watching a sampling of the dance moves the Michael Jackson protégé had built up practically from infancy, Spears hired the teenager. He had an immediate impact. It was his idea to drape a python over her shoulders for the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards, which became that show’s defining moment. “She hated me for that,” says Robson, 21. “She broke out in hives.”
