Producer Quincy Jones

Remember when we blogged that Quincy supposedly said

“The new Michael Jackson album should not see the light of day”

WELL apparently Teddy has hit back with…

“Look at his [Jones'] age. He can barely hear you talk. How the hell could he hear Michael? Anybody who says [it is not Jackson on the album], I do have a comeback, because you’re not right. That’s just the bottom line.”

This sounds like a MONSTER brewing to us. Rappers are beefing and now producers! Can’t we just HOLD HANDS and get along…smh

Teddy Riley, one of the key producers behind the first posthumous Michael Jackson album Michael, has struck back at the criticisms of Quincy Jones relating to the album’s release.

Riley contributed 3 songs to the album, and says that the 77 year-old Jones’ hearing is not good enough to determine whether or not it’s actually Jackson on the album. Originally, Jones was quoted as saying that there is “no way ['Michael'] should be coming out”. Jones was the man behind the classic Jackson albums Thriller and Off the Wall.

Riley responded that with this: “Look at his [Jones'] age. He can barely hear you talk. How the hell could he hear Michael? Anybody who says [it is not Jackson on the album], I do have a comeback, because you’re not right. That’s just the bottom line.”

Riley also said it is “disappointing” that Jackson’s family have also been critical of Michael, as they are set to be “reaping the benefits” of sales of the album. Last month, MJ’s brother Randy contested the authenticity of the vocals, saying “some of the songs are him and some aren’t”.

Superproducer Quincy Jones, while doing publicity for his new album, has been asked a lot of questions about the state of pop music today. While he’s been complimentary towards some artists (and dismissive of others), there’s one subject he is unequivocal about: The new Michael Jackson album should not see the light of day.

“No way it should be coming out,” Jones said of the posthumous album, titled Michael. “It should have all stayed in the vault…It seems like everybody is trying to put everything out that they can with him. I don’t understand it. It’s all to make money. He wouldn’t have wanted it to come out this way.”

Q’s been covering a lot of ground while making the rounds…

On rapper Kanye West, and his title of “producer”: “Did he write for a symphony orchestra? Does he write for a jazz orchestra? Come on, man. He’s just a rapper … There’s no comparison. I’m not putting him down or making a judgment or anything, but we come from two different sides of the planet.”

On pop sensation Lady Gaga: “She’s great. … Gaga is like Madonna Jr. A lot of people follow Madonna.”

Jones also singled out Ludacris, Akon and Usher as artists who have that extra spark.

Remember a couple of weeks ago when we blogged about El Debarge & AL B Sure? They had a chance meeting in Atlanta and did a quick on the spot sing song of that Quincy Jones track SECRET GARDEN they both sang on back in the day.

Well the word on the street is that Quincy Jones has done a 2010 remake of that track featuring Usher, Tevin Campbell, Robin Thicke, Tyrese and LL Cool J. This we have to hear plus we have not seen Tevin Campbell in a ‘hot minute’.

However we can not find the video anywhere so if you find it before we do, please let us know. We have included the original Secret Garden version below to get ready for when the official version is launched. Quincy Jones feat. Al B. Sure, James Ingram, El DeBarge, & Barry White.

UPDATE: Quincy is executive producer on his tribute album with production credits going to Scott Storch and Jermaine Dupri.

Jermaine Dupri, we salute for your mix-tape concept. JD raps, “I think I’m Berry Gordy, Russell Simmons, Quincy Jones”.

For those of you who don’t know he has based this concept on a track by Rick Ross called B.M.F. The first line Rick Ross says “I think I’m Larry Hoover, Big Meech”. Larry Hoover and Big Meech are American Gangsters. Whereas Mr Dupri has turned it around and for his version given us more positive role models Berry, Russell and QuincyWE LOVE IT!
