During a candid chat with Piers Morgan on his CNN show, Jackson reveals her favourite memory with Michael is when the famous pair would hand out hot dinners to down-and-outs.
She recalls, “Mike and I were very close. We used to go to this restaurant called Love’s, I don’t think it’s there anymore, and we used to get a ton of dinners. And we’d drive around in the car looking for homeless people to give them to.
“We used to do it all the time, and just give them food. And one guy said, ‘I don’t want your stinking food!’ And I was like, ‘Let’s get out of here!’ He (Michael) was the one who was driving and I was the one passing out the food. But that’s the only time there was any sort of rejection.

Put on your red dress
And slip on your high heels
And some of that sweet perfume
It sure smells good on you
Slide on your lipstick
WISSAM al Mana, 36
Managing director of al Mana’s fashion portfolio which includes Hermès, Sonia Rykiel and Agent Provocateur.
Career in a nutshell:
I work in a family business founded by my late father over 60 years ago. Today our group comprises over 50 companies in the Gulf region in real estate, automotive istribution, engineering and construction, retail, food services and media, and is managed by my two brothers and I.
In 2004 I wanted to expand our retail division into luxury. Today, our luxury division comprises of over 40 stores in the Gulf, representing brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani, Hermès, Balenciaga, Chloé and Roberto Cavalli. We have also developed two Saks Fifth Avenue department stores, one in Dubai and the other in Bahrain, with plans to open more.
‘Pac was just silly,’ Jackson says of the late rapper, who was shot dead in Las Vegas three years after the film’s release. ‘He was completely different from what people knew.
‘Not that it was an act, the person that the world knew, because that was him, too. I adored him; he liked to play and laugh.
‘I remember when he said he was going back into LA to get a tattoo. And, I said, “Why are you going to LA? We’re not supposed to leave, we have to shoot tomorrow.”
‘He looked at me and said, “Square!’ she says, laughing. ‘When he came back he showed me the tattoo he got on his stomach. He was sweet. Granted, there was another side, but he wouldn’t just snap or go crazy out of nowhere.
There had to be something that triggered that. I miss him,’ she says softly.
Janet Jackson on Gaga
She met Lady Gaga recently backstage at one of the flamboyant star’s concerts.
‘We had a good conversation,’ Jackson says. ‘She asked a lot of questions and I felt she really listened to what I had to say. I love how she puts melody in music and I think that has been lost in a lot of music.
It’s a little reminiscent of Grace Jones, and I don’t mean that in a bad way. It’s a little left and over the top, but still good and fun. It’s exciting to see what she is going to do next.’
“When I did Good Times, they used to bind my chest because I was developing breasts at a young age… It immediately makes you think, ‘The way I am isn’t good enough.’ They thought I was too heavy and that I needed to lose weight. When I look back at the show, I was your average-size kid.”
“I have more of a passion for acting than I do singing, because singing comes so much easier to me. Acting is more of a challenge. I always say to people, ‘I’m really in the wrong business because I don’t like being in front of huge crowds, and I don’t like it when a lot of people are looking at me.”
