In 1980, Michael Jackson performs song “Rock With You” at “Because We Care”, a UNICEF Charity Gala. “Thank you. Thank you very much. Thank you very much, not only for your applause, but thank you for caring; and I’m very happy to be here. I love you all. Thank you”, he says to the audience after performing his song.

On January 27, 1984, Jackson suffered second degree burns on his scalp while filming a Pepsi commercial at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. A pyrotechnics accident set his hair on fire in front of the auditorium full of fans who were there for a simulated concert. Jackson sued Pepsi Co and settled out of court for $1.5 million. The settlement was donated to the Brotman Medical Center in Culver City, California, where Jackson received treatment for his burns. Using the money donated by Jackson, Brotman was able to get the best available technology for treating burn victims. The burn ward at the hospital was later named the “Michael Jackson Burn Center” to honor Jackson and his generous contribution.

Harold George “Harry” Belafonte, Jr. born March 1, 1927 is an American musician, actor and social activist. One of the most successful popular singers in history, he was dubbed the “King of Calypso,” a title which he was very reluctant to accept (according to the documentary Calypso Dreams) for popularizing the Caribbean musical style with an international audience in the 1950s. Belafonte is perhaps best known for singing the “Banana Boat Song,” with its signature lyric “Day-O.” Throughout his career, he has been an advocate for civil rights and humanitarian causes. He was a vocal critic of the policies of the George W. Bush Administration. Wiki
