Actor Chris Tucker will accept an award on behalf of late superstar Michael Jackson at the Apollo Theater’s annual benefit concert in New York on Monday night.
The late King of Pop and Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin will be named Apollo Legends at the gala on June 14th, at the venue where Jackson launched his career with the Jackson 5 at the Apollo’s Amateur Night in the late 1960s.
Organizers had initially planned to hand Jackson’s trophy to the late star’s family, but it has now been confirmed that Rush Hour star Tucker will take the stage in their place to accept the prize, according to New York Post gossip column PageSix. Tucker was close friends with the late Thriller hit-maker and even appeared in his 2001 music video for You Rock My World.
The event, which will be hosted by Jamie Foxx, will also honor Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony for their charity work and see performances from stars including British singer Estelle.

The Motown Revue comes to the Apollo, 1962

Michael Jackson is apart of the first class of entertainers to be honored with stars on a new Walk Of Fame site outside of New York’s Apollo Theatre.
Along with the King of Pop Michael Jackson, others to be honored will be The Godfather of Soul James Brown, Quincy Jones, Patti LaBelle, Smokey Robinson, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Aretha Franklin , Little Richard and Ella Fitzgerald.
The plaques were installed this week for everyone except Michael Jackson and Aretha Franklin. Jackson and Franklin’s plaques will be unveiled in June with the Gala Benefit.Each year at the non-profit Theater’s Spring Gala Benefit, legendary musicians, artists, and entertainers whose path to fame included the Apollo are inducted into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame.
The Apollo theater is celebrating its 75th anniversary year.

From her seat in the Beverly Hilton International ballroom, Rebbie Jackson watched a big screen quietly with her brother Randy as the Oscars paid tribute to members of the Hollywood community who passed away in 2009. Then the image of her brother Michael appeared.
“When I saw his picture – that was hard, it brought tears,” she told PEOPLE earlier this month at the Children Uniting Nations fundraiser where Rebbie, 59, made a rare public appearance with her brother Randy, 48, to accept the 2010 Angel Award honoring her late brother’s support of children’s causes. “We miss him so much,” she told the crowd, “and we know you do too.”
Backstage after receiving the award, Rebbie said she took a moment to compose herself. “I got very emotional afterward,” she says. “But I was very pleased and happy to be a part of this – Michael was very passionate about children and supporting their causes. Boy he would have loved this,” she says, smiling. “I’m grateful and thankful to all these people.”
