Ne-Yo sat down with CW Detroit Gossip Girls and discussed fatherhood, Michael Jackson as an influence and of course the disappointing first week sales numbers of his new album Libra Scale. It leaked a month before the release date and sold only 113k in the first week.
Compare those numbers too…
Kanye West and Nicki Minaj both suffered album leaks but they did significant numbers for the release of their albums. According to Hits Daily Double Kanye landed in the number one spot selling 518,775 and Nicki was right behind him with 371,049.
NEYO SAID…
“I was a little disturbed by my first week numbers, but a lot of things went into that first week number… the album getting leaked a month in advance definitely had something to do with it. That was another situation where I jumped on my soapbox (Twitter) and let the world know how I felt about that. You know it’s the world we live in today, it’s the game. You either play the game or you get out. I’m not gonna let the ignorance of some stop me from doing what I feel like I was put on this earth to do.”

We really really like this video. Kanye we feel you and respect you because YOU DO YOU.
I know we keep preaching but we love people who are themselves that’s why we loved MJ. That’s why the media attacked him.

Kanye said “Michael Jackson died for the sins of the media!” We salute Kanye for that! This is why we love the lyrical concept behind the new track ‘Breaking News.’
PS: Has Kanye even taken a breath? His mind moves really FAST. He actually cannot keep up with his own mind. It’s actually quite amazing to watch. DEEEEEEP!!!!

So we are having a little Kanye West moment
Kanye West showcased his new music video, ‘Runaway’, at BAFTA in London’s Piccadilly on Oct 6th.
The rapper-producer took to the stage to introduce the 40-minute long music video in front of a packed, invite-only room that included the likes Lemar and Marina And The Diamonds.
He described the movie, due for worldwide release in a fortnight, as “an overall representation of what I dream”, telling the audience it’s “a modern-day version of ‘The Wall’ or ‘Thriller’”.
The film is a colour-saturated tale of a phoenix, played by model and actress Selita Ebanks, that falls to earth and becomes the girlfriend of West’s character Griffin. In a series of dreamlike sequences that feature ballerinas and banquets she suffers discrimination from those around her and eventually has to burn herself alive. The film was written by Hype Williams and directed by West.
He added: “With everything I’ve been through in the past year it was divine intervention that helped the making of this. God has prepped me to be a soldier and to fight for my art.”
At a press junket following the London screening of Kanye West’s short film Runaway, the controversial rapper half-jokingly compared a meeting he had with Michael Jackson to the scene in Iron Man 2 when the father passes his power down to Tony Stark.
West added that he “had to keep this thing going” now that Michael’s gone. “I feel extra convicted with the passing of Michael Jackson.”
Kanye, MJ has inspired many people and if this is how he has influenced you, then do your thing. We are rooting for you – we love that you keep his memory alive by acknowledging the KING! Runaway with your dreams and continue to make them happen.
