Animal rights activists held a rally at the concert site of music icon Janet Jackson to protest the performer’s endorsement of fur coats.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) activists staged their protest in front of the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City where Jackson held her one-night-only concert on Friday.

The activists wore grim reaper costumes and carried placards with the slogans, “Janet: Animals suffer and die on fur farms,” “Janet: Fur is Dead,” and “Fur Shame.”

According to PETA activist Jana Sevilla, they want to send Jackson their message about the impact of the killings of animals around the world.

They said the demand for fur coats has contributed to the loss of biodiversity, including endangered species. Representatives of Jackson met with the PETA activists but declined to be interviewed by media.

Last year Peta said,

“It’s amazing what celebrities will do when their careers are on a downslide, but we didn’t think that Janet was this desperate. Surely she knows enough about suffering and unjustified death to recognize that both occur in the production of a fur coat. We are asking her to think again and to donate these stolen skins to be used as bedding for animals orphaned by other human-caused disasters, such as loss of habitat.

Woah Peta that was VURRY CATTY’

Pop star Janet Jackson has been revealed as the new face of fur company ‘BlackGlama’ joining the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Diana Ross.

The ‘Rhythm Nation’ singer will be the face for the range’s ‘What Becomes a Legend Most?’ campaign. The pop star is following in the footsteps of Diana Ross, Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor who have previously been the face of the company.

The adverts will hit the print press and a billboard in Times Square in New York in September.

Joe Morelli CEO of BlackGlama said: “Janet is an icon in the world of music and entertainment, a true legend. She represents everything that this storied campaign embodies. Janet is to entertainment what BlackGlama is to luxury.”

The superstar  told Essence magazine that she feels more confident aged 44 than she ever has done before.

She said: “There comes a time when you don’t give an ‘F’ what people say or think. You just do your thing because it’s finally about you and not in a selfish way but in a great way.”
