A familiar silhouette emerged from a thinly veiled sheet as Black America sat in front of their television screens and saw an image of themselves. They saw a person who was once loved, who had made many questionable decisions, and who they only learned to forgive and embrace in his death. The silhouette was of Michael Jackson, a man who left an indelible mark on the souls of Black folk despite the love/hate relationship he had with them. Michael was Black America. Innovative, talented beyond belief, exploited for his talents, robbed of his innocence, and consequently, transcended into a tailspin of bad decisions that for many people, were unforgiveable.
Last night, as we sat glued to our television screens, eager to soak in another tribute to Michael Jackson because it eases our collective sorrow for how we treated him when he was alive, the veil in front of the all too familiar silhouette of Michael Jackson dropped, and the body behind the veil was Chris Brown…a young man who over the last year or so, has been experiencing the same type of love/hate relationship that Michael Jackson did all his life.

Where Have You Been Hiding?
El DeBarge, a singer known for his musical family DeBarge and their 1985 signature tune “Rhythm of The Night,” performed the classic song and a tune from his first album in 16 years, aptly named “Second Chance.” The 49-year-old singer said on the awards show that he chose the title because he believes “everybody deserves a second chance.”
Fact 1: El Debarge is the big brother to James Debarge. James was Janet’s first husband.
Fact 2: In 1985, El Debarge realized major success with the release of his pop- hit “Rhythm of the Night” accompanied by a video with his siblings featured in Berry Gordy’s film, The Last Dragon.

Veteran funk-rocker Prince was given a lifetime achievement award at the show, which was hosted by comedian, actress and rapper Queen Latifah.
Prince watched in the audience as Stevie Wonder paid tribute in a video, and onstage Janelle Monae gave an energetic rendition of his “Let’s Go Crazy” while disco diva Patti Labelle pumped out a rousing “Purple Rain.”
Wearing white trousers and turtleneck, Prince took the stage, thanked the crowd and said, “I do believe the future is in good hands, I’ve seen so much talent here tonight.
“I was pretty wild in my younger days and you don’t have to do what I do,” he said, with a smile. “You don’t have to make any of the mistakes that I made. The future is in your hands.”
O yea, can someone tell me why he is holding a shoe in the air?
