Michael was reportedly upset with Mottola for not promoting his comeback album, Invincible. Apparently Jackson’s criticism had an impact. Six months later, in January of 2003, Mottola resigned as chairman of Sony. He was replaced by Andrew Lack.

The song was written by Beenie Man and produced by award-winning duo The Neptunes. It was released as a single on September 16, 2002, peaking in the top 20′s and 30′s in most countries. It spent 12 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 peaking at #28. It also peaked at #9 on the UK Singles Chart.
However, its release also sparked controversy, as UK Gay Rights group OutRage! called for a boycott of the single, citing Beenie Man’s “history of homophobic dancehall lyrics.”
In 2004, Jackson expressed her regret for the duet, saying “If I had known that (he was associated with homophobia), I would not have worked with him. It’s shocking to me. We’re on the same label, so I should have known. But at the same time, I wish someone from the company would have told me, knowing how… I feel about the gay community.” The song appeared in the Japan-only radio promo sampler We Love Janet in 2006. Never Mind Janet!

MTV AWARDS
FROM AN MJ FAN:
During an MTV Video Music Award ceremony on August 29, 2002, which also happened to be Michael’s birthday, Brittany Spears introduced Michael as the artist of the millennium, to present him with a birthday cake. Michael was under the impression that he was receiving an Artist of the Millennium award from MTV. It is unclear to fans around the world when MTV decided that this award, that was earlier mentioned on their own website ceased to exist. I believe its time for MTV to do what is right and produce such an award for Michael’s contribution to the music industry. An award that should have been given to him in 2000, not only for his inspirational lyrics and amazing video productions, but also for making MTV what it is today. For those who are not aware of Michael’s lifelong humanitarian efforts, below is a list of charities and links to some of those charities he supported. R.I.P. Till We Meet, Michael.
