In this May 8, 1997 photo below Michael Jackson sits next to Stan Winston before the screening of his latest music video “Ghost” at the Festival Palace in Cannes during the 50th International Cannes Film Festival. Hollywood special-effects maestro Stan Winston has died at age 62. The Oscar-winning visual effects artist died at his home Sunday, June 15, 2008, surrounded by family after a seven-year struggle with multiple myeloma, according to a representative from Stan Winston Studio.

Stanley Winston (April 7, 1946 – June 15, 2008) was an American visual effects supervisor, make-up artist, and film director. He was best known for his work in the Terminator series, the Jurassic Park series, Aliens, the Predator series, Iron Man and Edward Scissorhands. He won four Academy Awards for his work.

Winston, a frequent collaborator with director James Cameron, owned more than one effects studio, including Stan Winston Digital. The established areas of expertise for Winston were in makeup, puppets and practical effects, but he had recently expanded his studio to encompass digital effects as well.

In 1996, Winston directed and co-produced the longest and the most expensive music video of all time, Ghosts, which was based on an original concept of Michael Jackson and Stephen King. The long-form music video presented a number of never before seen visual effects, and promoted music from two consecutive Jackson albums, HIStory and Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix, which went on to become the biggest selling double-album and remix album of all time (20 million and 11 million).

Winston moved to Hollywood to pursue a career as an actor. Struggling to find an acting job, he began a makeup apprenticeship at Walt Disney Studios.

Boyzone Stephen Gately meets Michael Jackson in 1997

Stephen Patrick David Gately (17 March 1976 – 10 October 2009) was an Irish pop singer, songwriter and actor, who, with Ronan Keating, was one of two lead singers of the pop group Boyzone. All of Boyzone’s studio albums hit number one in the UK, their third and last being their most successful internationally. With Boyzone Gately had a record-breaking sixteen consecutive singles enter the top five of the UK Singles Chart. He performed for millions of fans globally. He released his only solo album in 2000, after the group’s initial breakup, which charted in the UK top ten and yielded three UK hit singles including the top three hit “New Beginning.” Gately went on to appear variously in successful stage productions and on television programmes as well as contributing further solo tracks to various compilations and soundtracks. In 2008, he rejoined his colleagues as Boyzone reformed for a series of concerts and recordings.

Gately’s body was discovered on 10 October 2009 an apartment which he owned with Cowles near Port d’Andratx on the western tip of Majorca in Spain. Spanish police were alerted at 1:45 pm. The cause of death has yet to be determined, although it was reported that he had “gone out for drinks, returned to his accommodation and fallen asleep, but never woke up.” He was found squatting in an awkward way on a sofa, dressed in his pyjamas. Police said they had no reason to believe the death was related to abuse of substances such as drugs or alcohol and no suicide note or signs of violence were located on the corpse. The Gately family have enlisted celebrity solicitor Gerald Kean as their official spokesperson; Kean ruled out foul play and suicide, describing it as “just a tragic accident”

Singer Michael Jackson recorded the song for his 1995 double album HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I.

MusicCatalog-M-Michael Jackson - HIStory - Past, Present & Future, Book I-Michael Jackson - HIStory - Past, Present & Future, Book I

It was planned to be released as the eighth single from the album in 1997 but was cancelled days before its release date. Only a few copies from the Netherlands, Germany and South Africa (where the record distribution was started previous to the withdrawal) were saved as the other copies were withdrawn. The rarest pressings include the CD maxi single (estimated value over €500) and the single track promo.

The remixes on this release have never been released commercially since, but some can also be found on the “Is It Scary” promotional 12″ records from the UK. The “Downtempo Groove Mix” is the rarest mix of this song because it was only released on the maxi. The remix was uncredited, but was actually done by Eddie Arroyo.

Born Sigmund Esco Jackson in Gary, Indiana on his mother’s 21st birthday, May 4, 1951, he is the second child of Joseph and Katherine and the oldest male child. He was given the name “Jackie” by relatives.

Aspiring to be a professional baseball player, Jackson forsook that dream when he and his four younger brothers formed the Jackson 5 in 1966.

Jackie and his two younger brothers Tito and Jermaine were part of an early incarnation of the group as The Jackson Brothers in 1964.

Jackie married Enid Spann (died 20 December 1997) in November 1974 at the age of 23. They divorced in 1987. He has two children – daughter Brandi (adopted), and Sigmund “Siggy”, who performs under the name DealZ.
