1972

You know we love the Jacksons, to us regardless of any drama they are music royalty, BUT there is one little Jackson in this picture who is making us laugh really hard because the photographer did not get his angles quite right! LOOOOOOOL. Can you guess who?

O and check out little Marlon’s chest!

Maybe this is picture that got him thinking, “When I grow up, I’m going to pose with a real Tiger”

Ben is a number-one hit song written by Don Black and Walter Scharf and recorded by Michael Jackson for the Motown label in 1972.

Originally written for Donny Osmond, “Ben” was offered to Jackson as Osmond was on tour at the time and unavailable for recording.

The single, theme of a 1972 film of the same name (the sequel to the 1971 killer rat movie Willard), spent one week at the top of the U.S. pop chart. It also reached number-one on the Australian pop chart, spending eight weeks at the top spot. The song also later reached a peak of number seven on the British pop chart.

The song became the first of 13 number-one pop hits for Jackson in the United States and his first number-one as a solo artist; it was later included on Jackson’s album of the same name.

“Ben” won a Golden Globe for Best Song. It was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1973; Jackson performed the song in front of a live audience at the ceremony.

Although Jackson had already become the youngest artist to ever record a number-one (“I Want You Back” with The Jackson 5, in 1970), “Ben” made him the third-youngest solo artist, at fourteen, to score a number-one hit single.

Only Stevie Wonder, who was thirteen when “Fingertips, Pt. 2″ went to number one, and Donny Osmond, who was months shy of his fourteenth birthday when “Go Away Little Girl” hit number one in 1971 were younger.

2457 Woodward at I-75 near downtown Detroit and the new Grand Circus Park and the new stadia

The Donovan Building was designed by Albert Kahn and opened in 1923. Commercial shops occupied the street level while the offices in the higher ten floors were rented to various businesses. The building, however, is best remembered for its link to Motown Music. Barry Gordy borrowed capital from his family and founded his Motown music firm in the converted home that is now recognized as the Hitsville Motown Museum on West Grand Boulevard. As his business prospered, he turned Motown Records into a production line industry. Eventually he purchased at least a dozen of the large homes that faced West Grand Boulevard to serve as offices and production suites for his booming business.

By 1968, Motown Music was cramped in the various homes they occupied, so Barry Gordy purchased the Donovan Building at Woodward and I-75 for their home offices. By this time, Motown Music has become the world’s largest black-owned and operated corporation. Apparently, many of the artists who created the wealth for Motown found the Donovan Building too professional and bureaucratic. It lacked soul. They preferred the informality of the many homes along West Grand. After moving his offices to the Donovan Building, Barry Gordy held many of his most important meetings at the Ponchatrain Hotel on West Jefferson rather than at the Donovan Building, further separating himself from the artists who helped create his wealth.

Read this MJ Charity Fact…

On Christmas Day, 1972, in Los Angeles, California, the 14 year old singer and the Jackson 5, dressed as Santas, make their appearance at a foundation, to visit and offer presents – on behalf of their record company, Motown – to 700 underprivileged children. During that season, the Jackson 5 perform some Christmas songs during a benefit concert at the “Foundation for the Junior Blind” for 1000 visually impaired children.

So MJtheBest.com did some investigating…

We found an article in Ebony Jnr where they write an article/interview on the Jackson 5. J5 talk about the above charity event. Read Below…

This is an expert from the middle of the article… “Anyone who knows about The Jackson Five should know that the popular singing group sells many records and therefore, earns large sums of money. The brothers could easily afford to show their love for family and friends at Christmastime by spending their money on expensive gifts. But The Jackson Five know well enough that money can not buy friends. They also know that a warm and friendly smile can often better express their love for others than an expensive gift. Each of the Jackson brothers is very menoly and engoys meeting their fans. They enjoy doing benefit shows.”
