A judge threatened Monday to hit Dr. Conrad Murray’s lawyers with $1,500-a-day fines for failing to share evidence with prosecutors before the physician’s trial next month in the death of Michael Jackson.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor told lawyers for the pop icon’s personal physician that he would impose the fines or other sanctions Wednesday unless they met their legal obligation to turn over witness statements and expert reports to prosecutors.
“I am extremely distressed about the state of this case and whether in fact the defense is ready for trial,” Pastor said.
Murray is set to go on trial March 24, but prosecutors have repeatedly asked the judge to delay the case, saying the defense is not ready for trial because it has not shared materials concerning its witnesses.
Murray has refused to waive his right to a speedy trial, as most defendants do, to preserve his right to practice medicine. Pastor stripped him of his California medical license, but authorities in Texas and Nevada, where he practices, have agreed to await the conclusion of the trial to make their decisions, his lawyers said.

On the 22nd of Feb TMZ reported that a Michael Jackson video was being shot on the streets of Hollywood. They also stated that Sony was currently shooting not one, but two videos for singles from the MICHAEL album; one of them for the song ‘Hollywood Tonight.’
This does not surprise us here at MJtheBest.com because we reported this rumour last month.
Apparently the shoot was not kept under wraps; a crew of about 60 lined the sidewalk and the street in front of the Pantages Theatre, upstaging the”Rock of Ages” show in Hollywood last night.
According to MJFC they received confirmation from the Michael Jackson Estate that the second video in question is for the song ‘Behind The Mask,’ and it was an indoor shoot for that one.
MJFC also reported that dual videos are due to the fact that different countries around the world are seeing the release of a different second single from the MICHAEL album.

MICHAEL JACKSON’s three children have been caught up in a bitter battle between estate executors and the singer’s mother KATHERINE over the kids’ involvement in a charity.
The Thriller hitmaker established the Heal the World Foundation in 1992, helping to raise funds for a variety of causes, including drug and alcohol abuse education and disadvantaged children.
The organisation shut down in 2002, but a separate charity, also named Heal the World Foundation, was set up in 2008. The new company had no link to Jackson and his estate executors have since launched legal proceedings against founder Melissa Johnson, accusing her of infringement and unfair competition.
They claim Johnson’s firm is causing the singer’s fans to mistakenly believe it is the same Heal the World Foundation the superstar was involved in and are demanding she change the name of her charity.

The CHARLIE CHAPLIN tune CELINE DION will perform at the Oscars on Sunday (17Feb11) will also feature in her new show in Las Vegas – as part of a tribute to MICHAEL JACKSON.
Dion will perform Smile as images of the celebrities and film technicians who have passed away in the last 12 months are flashed onto a screen behind her at the Academy Awards.
But it won’t be a one-off performance – Dion, who was part of a tribute to the King of Pop at the 2010 Grammy Awards, will salute the late star during her new Sin City show with the song, a favourite of Jackson’s.
She explains, “He changed my life. I saw him on TV and I wanted to sing in English because he was, so and I went to learn English and met with him and I (sang) with him and he came to see the show and he had a big impact on my life.”
Jackson’s brother Jermaine sang the Chaplin song at the King of Pop’s memorial concert in 2009

Phyl thanks for the link. We are trying to make this story sink in!
A lawyer who worked for celebrity attorney Mark Geragos during his representation of Michael Jackson said Tuesday he wants to join the defense team representing Jackson’s doctor on an involuntary manslaughter charge.
The move by attorney Nareg Gourjian raised the possibility of a conflict of interest.
Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor said that loyalty to a former client, even one who is dead, is part of the rules that must be obeyed by all attorneys.
Geragos represented Jackson on child molestation allegations from 2003 to 2005 but left the case before the trial in which Jackson was acquitted. Gourjian, who appeared in court with Murray’s lawyers, said he was a new attorney when he was hired by Geragos and did little on the Jackson case. Geragos’ associate, attorney Pat Harris, brought the situation to the judge’s attention. “Our position is there may be a conflict. We feel it is our duty to disclose it,” Harris said. “We have the highest respect for Mr. Gourjian as an attorney.”

Phyl keeps us up-to-date with what happening over at TMZ. They report…
Michael Jackson wasn’t the first patient to die while in Dr. Murray’s care — in fact, TMZ has learned MJ investigators spoke with the son of a former Murray patient who BLAMES the doc for killing his dad in a botched surgery.
Months after MJ’s death, LAPD detectives spoke with Gerard White — whose father died 6 days after Dr. Murray operated on his heart in Las Vegas back in 2007.
White told investigators Murray not only botched the surgery and ripped a hole in his dad’s heart — but he failed to recognize obvious, tell-tale signs that his patient was fatally wounded.

Exclusive: Michael Jackson, even in death, remains in the middle of the current musical chairs deals in the declining record industry.
For all these years, Michael’s MiJac Publishing has been administered by Warner Chappell, part of what is now Warner Music Group. MiJac includes not only Michael’s hits that he wrote, like “Billie Jean” and “Beat It,” but a vast number of other hits including those of Ray Charles, Curtis Mayfield, and Sly and the Family Stone.
Warner Chappell doesn’t own MiJac but it administers the rights to it and collects hefty fees. With WMG for sale, and talk of Warner Chappell being sold off, MiJac would seem like an integral part of their story.

Before everyone gets too excited: the wrongful death suit brought by Katherine Jackson against AEG Live was allowed to proceed on Wednesday by Judge Yvette Palazuelos. However: little remains of the case. Katherine Jackson’s attempt to wrest millions from AEG Live was “gutted,” as on one observer described it. Not only that, but Jackson choreographer Kenny Ortega was removed as a defendant by the judge. Also, the judge said in her remarks that she doubted the Jackson case had much left to it.
“If the object was to get him to rehearsals, I don’t see that as a wrongful or illegal act,” she said. The judge threw out the three complaints concerning fraud. What remains are three complaints concerning Dr. Conrad Murray. They’e gone to summary judgment. That means the judge will rule without a trial.
