This is a picture infront of the house where Michael Jackson grew up in, in Gary Indiana.
I was riding through from Indianapolis to Chicago and we stopped by to pay homage.
It was sad to see the “neighbors” selling anything Michael Jackson to make a quick buck as fans came from all over the map to pay respect. I just don’t find that morally respectful at all…But thats just me.

Jackson 5 stars attend slain drummer’s funeral. However, the family’s two biggest stars are absent.

The Jackson 5 clan were in attendance yesterday for the funeral of the band’s former drummer, who was killed in a stabbing earlier this month.

Johnny Jackson Jr – unrelated to the Jackson family – died on March 1st after being reportedly stabbed with a steak knife during an argument with 44-year-old Yolanda Davis, who has been charged over the crime.

Attending yesterday’s service in Gary, Indiana, were Jermaine, Tito, Marlon, Randy and Jackie Jackson. There was a no show, however, from Michael Jackson – currently residing in Bahrain, or his sister Janet – who reportedly footed the bill for the ceremony.

“He was like a brother to all of them,” Jackson family attorney Brian Oxman said to Indiana’s Gary Post Tribune. “He was a part of their youth, and now that is gone.”
“He had a lively way of living and enjoyed every moment,” Randy Jackson added to press. “He made touring fun. There was never a dull moment, with jokes and a lot of laughs.”

The late drummer performed with the Jackson 5 for 15 years, from 1967.

Johnny P Jackson on the Drums

Johnny Jackson, the man who kept the beat for the Jackson 5, and cousin to Michael, Janet, Tito et al., was found stabbed to death in his Gary, Indiana, home Wednesday.

According to local police, officers were called to Johnny Jackson’s house at approximately 11:30 p.m. after a neighbor phoned in a noise complaint. The caller, who lived above Jackson, reported that the musician and an unidentified woman were having a heated exchange on the first floor of the building.

The police entered Jackson’s home and found the 54-year-old unconscious with a stab wound to his chest. Less than an hour later, the Lake County coroner’s office pronounced him dead.

The person who placed the emergency call told cops she went downstairs after hearing the commotion and found her neighbor lying in living room. It was then she contacted the police.

Police have no details on the woman Jackson was supposedly arguing with, including how she knew the drummer, although the neighbor described the woman as an acquaintance of Jackson’s.

No arrests have been made. The case is being treated as a homicide investigation.

RIP Dee Jackson

Jackson joined his famous cousins’ singing troupe in the late 1960s, replacing the group’s original drummer, Milford Hite. While Motown sessions musicians played on most of the group’s greatest cuts, including “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “I’ll Be There” and “Never Can Say Goodbye,” Johnny Jackson was the band’s concert drummer. After the group disbanded, he joined an outfit called the White Doves.

There has always been some debate as to whether or not Johnny Jackson was a blood relative or legitimate cousin of the hit-making family; however, it is believed that he was a nephew of patriarch Joe Jackson.

It’s not immediately known whether Johnny Jackson had ever married or had children; he was living alone at the time of his death.

“It hurts me so bad,” Jackson’s childhood friend and White Doves bandmate Anthony Acoff told the Associated Press. “I called him that night. We were supposed to go to a jam session.”

“He was a show drummer,” said another old friend, Gordon Keith (who has sued the Jackson 5 over some early recordings). “There were times that he would outshine Michael at their shows.”

A Report Taken from: www.post-trib.com

Award-winning director Spike Lee and a film crew spent Wednesday at the childhood home of Michael Jackson filming a documentary about the King of Pop.

“This … is where it all happened! Right here — 2300 Jackson Street … the greatest entertainer in the world,” Lee said during a brief break between filming.

Lee wore his traditional New York Yankees baseball attire to fight off the early morning chill. Lee, responsible for more than 20 years of acclaimed movies such as “Do The Right Thing,” “School Daze” and “Malcolm X,” directed Jackson several years ago in a music video.

It was called “They Don’t Really Care About Us,” a title from one of Jackson singles from the “HIStory” CD.

Lee said the footage at the house will be part of a short film on Jackson’s life that will likely be released in mid-October. Jackson died June 25 at age 50.

When asked if his short film is coinciding with the release of “This is It,” a movie on Jackson’s final days that includes footage of the singer’s rehearsals for a London tour, Lee said “it could be.”

“This is It” will be released Oct. 28 and play for just two weeks. Tickets went on sale Monday and many 500-seat venues have sold out. Some Northwest Indiana theaters are holding late-night premieres Oct. 27.

Wednesday’s filming here was kept secret for days.

The nwitimes.com Reports

IndianaThe owner of the nightclub where Michael Jackson made his professional debut with the Jackson Five wants to sell the building to fans of the King of Pop, brick by brick.

Bright Idea!

Andrew Young, a local businessman, said he bought the shuttered Mr. Lucky’s Lounge about a year ago and had the idea of revitalizing it or perhaps selling off pieces as Jackson memorabilia.

“If we have enough interest, we will take it apart by hand, piece by piece, being very careful to preserve every single thing,” Young said when contacted at home Friday.

Mr Lucky’s the first club Jackson 5 preformed

Steeltown Records founder Gordon Keith, who first signed the Jackson Five, has confirmed numerous times that Mr. Lucky’s is the first club the boy band hit after winning a city-wide talent contest in 1966. They were paid $7.

“This is how it all started,” Young said. “Back then, you had to have talent and claw your way up from the bottom.”

Online Auction

Young is now in the process of starting up a Web site where interested bidders can view some of the memorabilia from Mr. Lucky’s. He also is exploring using online-auction Web sites for the sale.

Mr. Lucky’s, at the corner of Grant and 11th avenues, closed a few years ago. It is a red brick building with some limestone brick facing that has seen better days. Its windows are boarded up, steel jackposts hold up the overhang, and a sign on the door tells people they must be 21 to enter.

Steel Town Records

Written by Gordon Keith,

Released as the Jackson 5’s first ever single
by Steel-Town Records in January 1968 (USA only)
.

Demo recorded circa November 1967. Initially hand-sold by Michael and his brothers, at the many gigs they played. Picked up for national distribution by Atco, a subsidiary of Atlantic Records, who pressed 10,000 copies. Sold well locally, but failed to register on any of Billboard’s charts.

Re-issued as a limited edition CD single in the States, on the Inverted
record label, in June 1995.
